Lovelies, as a business owner, it is absolutely understandable and expected to find yourself experiencing various states of being ranging from excitement, great uplevelelings and being in flow to feeling low, discouraged, stuck, in fear and totally overwhelmed!
The diagram below, created by one of my coaches Derek Halpern, describes this kind of spectrum really well and with a touch of humour. Yet I wanted to write this post to make a very necessary distinction around the fact that although yes the entrepreneurial journey IS indeed full of ups and downs, you should not experience yourself in a state of overwhelm at ALL times.
If that however is what is happening for you, then one of the following things might be going on:
Now this is entirely up to you how you can handle but know that building a business takes time and though some people start making money straight away, the majority of people in business need at least a couple of years to get going and start creating traction in earning money and making their business work in a sustainable way.
There is absolutely no shame in working whilst building a business and feeling safe and with less overwhelm whilst at it. It is important to look after yourself and be stable financially, not waking up in cold sweat and then showing up in your client work desperately. Noone likes a desperate coach/ healer/ therapist. Do we?
I personally did leave my job following my illness which was also coinciding with the end of my contract was because I could afford to do so financially through my savings. Otherwise I would have kept working part time and building my business outside my working ours.
Our old limited beliefs and outdated values of what we can be and do can take such a strong hold on us that whenever we break out to creating a new paradigm for ourselves we are simply paralyzed by fear or overwhelm as we are trying to do things in new ways now.
Overwhelm, if showing up for you consistently at least, can be a MAJOR indication of self sabotage and somehow we may end up validating it because we feel we’re experiencing deep changes in our professional lives BUT in all actuality what is happening is us muddling the waters mentally and emotionally from moving forward with clear mind and intention. If that is the case for you, notice it, acknowledge it fully and do the work necessary to minimise it.
Without this, it is going to be very difficult to take on the entrepreneurial journey in its entirety and commit to the process involved, therefore experiencing the success you are desiring.
Is that what you want to see happening? I didn’t think so.
So be honest with yourself and study your overwhelm. What is it about? How can you move through it? Is it your ego holding you back? Is it fear and needing to step up in your mindset? Or is it that you need to create more stable external conditions to support your growth organically?
Keep moving forward consciously smashing your barriers and facing all that comes in the way from you creating the success you are after.
